At Matsuyama Oil and Fat, we utilize yuzu seeds after they are pressed at the Yamashin Kaju Herb Garden to extract the extract in-house. We have begun to include yuzu seed extract as a moisturizing ingredient in our long-time favorite product, Yuzu (citron) Hand Cream .
Our focus on the seeds is also a utilization of ancient wisdom. Yuzu seeds have long been used in folk medicine. Sake and shochu soaked in yuzu seeds have been enjoyed as alcohol, or diluted and used as lotion. There is scientific evidence for this. When yuzu seeds are soaked in water, they become slippery, which is pectin, a water-soluble dietary fiber with moisturizing properties.
We would like to make the most of yuzu seeds at the Yamakami Fruit Tree Herb Garden. We worked with Matsuyama Oil and Fat Fuji Kawaguchiko Plant and Fuji Hokuroku Laboratory to study the possibility of using yuzu seeds. We set conditions for the solute, including the type of solvent, extraction temperature and time, and whether the yuzu seeds should be dried or crushed. We made prototypes and tested them. We repeated this process for 4 months, 36 ways. We were able to derive the extraction conditions for the extract that improves the moisture content of the stratum corneum.
We plan to continue to add the extract to M Mark series products that use yuzu ingredients, such as Yuzu Body Lotion , Yuzu Body Soap , and Dense Yuzu Body Lotion , which will be launched on November1, 2011.
