This rather large (49cm square) soft handkerchief is woven in Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, on small looms used for tenugui (thin Japanese hand towels) and yukata (summer kimono). The warp threads are 30 yarn count and the weft threads are an even finer 40 yarn count, giving it a characteristic flexibility. This carefully woven fabric has been dyed with a traditional Japanese print pattern.
